St Albans School Sport Guidelines

St Albans School Sport Guidelines

The following are guidelines for sport at our school. While we endeavor to cater for as many children as possible, numbers are limited to the availability of coaching from teachers and parents. Also, we are only allowed to enter two teams in each sport - a directive that is from the Canterbury Primary School Sports Board. The selection of children in school representative teams is performance based.

Sport is an extra curricular activity provided to our children by many enthusiastic teachers and parents and selection of teams is always difficult so we ask you to respect our decisions.

There is a cost for most sports. This is for transport only (except for basketball). We are getting a fantastic service from the sporting organisations that run these events, which include coaching, organising draws, and generally coordinating the entire event(s). Our school pays to join these organising bodies and the children do get a great opportunity. The transport cost is kept to a minimum. No pay unfortunately means no play. If you have difficulty paying please apply in writing to the Principal's 'Acorn fund'.

In each term children may trial for any number of sports, however, if a child is selected in more than one sport and the sports are played at the same time, they will obviously have to make a commitment to one only.

Children who do not gain selection will be involved in organised sport at school.

I have contacts with local clubs in our community so our students can further their sporting interest with Saturday sport. Information can be obtained from myself, Glen McKenzie (glen.mckenzie@stalbans.school.nz or Shaye Textor  sport@stalbans.school.nz
